Are you planning a breast reconstruction consultation after a mastectomy, but not sure how to prepare for this important meeting with a potential plastic surgeon?
We’ve got you. Here are five things to disclose at your breast reconstruction consultation to ensure you find your best plastic surgeon!
5 Things You Must Tell Your Breast Reconstruction Surgeon
1. Your medical records.
Provide your breast reconstruction surgeon with your medical records, as these documents are critical for helping your surgeon make the best decision for you. These medical records can also be crucial for helping your surgeon decide if it’s the right time for you to seek out breast reconstruction surgery.
2. Your desired results.
Don’t be shy about telling your plastic surgeon the kind of results you’re looking for. For example, if you’ve always wanted a certain breast size, be vocal about those results. After all, this surgery is designed to make you feel confident in your skin again!

3. Your concerns for surgery.
Don’t be afraid to share how you feel about undergoing this surgery. If you’re nervous or concerned about your results, tell your surgeon. He or she should be able to provide you with information and reassurance you need to feel better about undergoing this surgery.
4. Your desire to see a portfolio.
A portfolio is one of the best indicators of a breast reconstruction surgeon’s skills with this extremely important surgery. Ask to see results from other breast reconstruction patients; if the results don’t fit what you’re looking for, this may be a sign you need to find another plastic surgeon.
5. The honest truth.
You shouldn’t feel pressured into undergoing breast reconstruction surgery with a plastic surgeon who doesn’t understand your feelings or concerns. Pay attention to how you feel throughout your breast reconstruction consultation. If you don’t feel as though your surgeon cares about your concerns or feelings, find another surgeon who does.
Around winter 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had to have a mastectomy so I had to then decide whether or not I wanted to try breast reconstruction or get the prostetic. I opted for breast reconstruction. I asked some of the other women who had breast cancer who was a good plastic surgeon. I got a lot of recommendations for Dr. Pittman. I called his office at that time Dr. Skowronski was with his practice and he did my reconstruction for my left breast. Well later I decided more as a preventive to get a mastectomy of my right breast. Dr. Skowronski had by then branched out into his own practice so I decided to try Dr. Pittman. Both surgeons did a fantastic job. I would recommend them to anyone going through breast reconstruction. Dr. Pittman is caring and very professional. He has answered questions to any concerns I may have in this process. His staff is phenomenal and great customer service is very hard to find these days. They go above and beyond. I love them all and Dr. Pittman is the best.
