Dr. Ed Pittman offers CoolSculpting® treatments as a non-invasive method to reduce unwanted, stubborn fat for both men and women.* CoolSculpting® is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical method for reducing stubborn fat in the abdomen and flanks (love handles). It can also be used to treat areas such as the arms, back, thighs, and buttocks.*
The first practice in Athens, Georgia to offer CoolSculpting®, Pittman Plastic Surgery is also the first in the area to provide two CoolSculpting® machines (DualSculpting™) for faster treatment times and the ability to treat more than one area at a time.
Candidates for CoolScultping®
Ideal candidates are within 30 lbs. of their ideal weight. CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss solution. Susan, our CoolSculpting® specialist will consult with each patient to determine target areas and if they are a good candidate. For patients who require removal of larger areas of fat, Pittman Plastic Surgery also offers liposuction and abdominoplasty.
Using a process called Cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting® takes very little time (usually 1 hour per treatment) and does not require anesthesia, incisions, needles, scars, sutures or even recovery time.* Our private and comfortable CoolSculpting® treatment room allows patients to work on a lap top, read a book, or simply relax during treatment. Patients enjoy the benefit of returning to daily activities with no downtime after this fat reduction procedure.*
This fat reduction technology applies targeted cold to areas of unwanted fat. CoolSculpting® is an in-office procedure that requires no pain medicine or anesthesia. The device is positioned on the body where select fat is targeted. With an initial pulling sensation to ensure the selected areas are chilled efficiently, the cooling process removes a portion of the fat cells underneath the skin.* After the procedure, the body’s lymphatic system gradually disposes of the affected fat cells.*

Recovery & Results
CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical procedure with the ability to achieve up to 20-40% fat reduction in the flanks and abdomen.* Patients can immediately return to work or normal activity following their procedure, as there is no downtime. Results will begin to appear 6-8 weeks following the initial treatment, however, patients can expect to see more substantial improvement within 2-3 months. It is important to note that your body will continue to metabolize and eliminate fat cells for up to 6 months after your CoolSculpting® treatment, so results will continue to show improvement.
Frequently Asked Questions about Coolsculpting
After the CoolSculpting® treatment, the affected fat cells are removed. Because remaining, untreated fat cells still have the ability to expand, it’s important to maintain your weight with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Due to the body’s lymphatic system’s process of expelling fat, results begin appearing about three weeks following treatment.* A 20% fat reduction will be present in 2-4 months following CoolSculpting ® treatment.*
After the treatment, some patients may experience temporary pain or discomfort. Although rare, other temporary side effects have included redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, itching, and numbness.*
With the ability to treat two areas at once, DualSculpting™ cuts treatment times in half.* For patients who want to reduce fat on their flanks, CoolSculpting® could previously only treat one side at a time. Now DualSculpting™ at Pittman Plastic Surgery can treat both sides simultaneously.
